Okay, so let’s say I’m talking to you now and you’re someone who’s always excelled, in almost every area of your life. Do you think you can succeed at investing? I think you can, and I think if you think you can too, then you should give it a good go. Now let’s say you do give it a good go - well done, but there's something you should know.
Eventually, you may get hit for the first time with a message you'll eventually hear all the time: "Science says you can’t outperform the index, so invest in the S&P 500 or something like that"
Well yes it’s right, on average, over the long-term you indeed cannot out-perform average. However, what if average isn’t your thing? What if, for some reason, it can’t be your thing? Well, who says you can't be in the cohort that stretches the average higher? You may be.
Statistically you won’t be – but wouldn't it be prudent to at least try? Give it a go and succeed like you have with everything else, or quit before you even try? The choice is yours!
